Established in Norway in 1975, The Bergesen Foundation's purpose is to support the implementation of projects which benefit the general public
The Bergesen Foundation is a Norwegian charitable foundation dedicated to promoting knowledge, culture, and sustainable development for the benefit of society. Established in 1975 by Sigval Bergesen, one of Norway’s most prominent shipowners and philanthropists, the foundation carries forward his commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen the community, encourage learning and preserve cultural heritage.
Each year, the Bergesen Foundation funds a wide range of projects across Norway and beyond, from education and research to cultural and social initiatives. Their goal is to foster engagement, broaden understanding and contribute to a vibrant, inclusive society. They place particular emphasis on supporting projects that make important historical moments accessible and meaningful to new generations.
Through their partnership with Liberation Convoy 2025, they help ensure that the role of the Norwegian merchant navy during the Second World war is not forgotten, and continues to inspire future generations across borders.
