Kyrre Haugen, Norwegian-British Chamber of Commerce
Kyrre Haugen has been the General Manager at the Norwegian-British Chamber of Commerce for nearly six years. He is a true land crab but with a love for the open sea. He doesn't have much experience as a sailor at all and his brother claims he gets seasick just by turning on the tap water. This obviously isn’t true!
A plumber by trade, Kyrre moved to London twenty five years ago for his university degree. He was self-employed for twenty years before joining the Norwegian-British Chamber of Commerce.
Kyrre describes his role within the Liberation Convoy as project management, planning and fund-raising as well as Ragnhild’s chaperone and shoulder to cry on. Although Kyrre is based in London, he will be a crew member on M/K Erkna from Bergen to Lerwick and possibly between other Liberation Convoy ports.
Kyrre was drawn in to the Liberation Convoy venture by his good friend Wiktor, who convinced him that he “just had to be part of the project". He sees this project as very important not only to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2 but equally important when we look around us in our European garden that tensions are high yet again. Apart from a great initiative to celebrate peace, it’s also a fantastic British-Norwegian collaboration project, which is a major motivating factor. Also he is motivated by the lack of honour for the war sailors and a general apathy for what’s going on around us in the world.
